Quoting the official website of Nahdlatul Ulama, if you want torinse your mouth with water after brushing your teeth, you can do so bygargling three times before ablution.

The Importance of Maintaining Dental and Oral Health During Fasting

  1. Preventing Bad Breath: Reduced intake of food and drink during fasting can cause dry mouth, which becomes a breeding ground for bacteria. Brushing teeth helps remove food remnants and bacteria, thus preventing bad breath.
  2. Avoiding Dental Health Problems: Regular brushing helps reduce the risk of dental health problems such as cavities, plaque, and gum disease.
  3. Maintaining Gum Health: Gum disease can cause inflammation and uncomfortable pain. Brushing teeth helps clean bacteria around the gums and prevents gum disease.

  • Brush your teeth at least twice a day: It's best to brush your teeth after suhoor (pre-dawn meal) and before bedtime to maintain dental and oral hygiene.
  • Use fluoride toothpaste: Fluoride helps protect teeth from damage and strengthens tooth enamel.
  • Don't forget to clean your tongue: Food residues on the tongue can also cause bad breath. Use a scraper or tongue cleaner to clean the tongue regularly.
